Quote of the Day
Carcanet has always been the place to look for considerations of purely literary and intellectual merit. Its list relies on the vision and the faith and the energy of people who care about books, and values. It is thus as rare as it is invaluable.
Frederic Raphael

Five Carcanet Poets reading at Shakespeare and Company, Paris (5 March 2012) - Gallery
A rare Parisian celebration of some of Carcanet’s finest poets, featuring five acclaimed poets and translators: Sasha Dugdale, Jane Draycott, Mimi Khalvati, Olivia McCannon and Stephen Romer at Shakespeare and Company bookshop. Sharing between them an impressive array of awards and publications, these five poets led us through a diverse range of poetries and cultures. From Stephen Romer’s meditations on home and exile to Olivia McCannon’s memories of Merseyside, from Sasha Dugdale’s evocations of Russia to Mimi Khalvati’s Persian poetic heritage and Jane Draycott’s translation of the medieval dream vision Pearl, this was a far-reaching evening of poetry and translation.
