    Lies and Dreams brought together the best of Ashby’s earlier work, including the title sequence which was broadcast on BBC Radio 3, as well as some of his shorter published poems. A concern with antecedents, with place, and a strong sense of our common isolation give these poems a nervous urgency, a rough eloquence.

    Cliff Ashby published four poetry collections and two novels in his lifetime. His collected poems, Plain Song (1985), contains the best work from his earlier volumes and includes several previously unpublished poems.
