Michelangelo (1475 - 1564)

  • About
  • Michaelangelo (1475-1564) was thought to be the greatest painter and sculptor of his generation and his reputation is still undiminished. He was born in Caprese, Italy, and was apprenticed to Domenico Ghirlandaio and later to a sculptor, Bertoldo. He worked on the Sistine Chapel ceiling between 1508 and 1512. His other major works include the Bacchus, the first Pieta and the sculpture, David. His verse, which mainly consists of sonnets, was written from 1534 onwards.
