  • Bernard Bergonzi, born in London in 1929, studied at Oxford, and lectured at Manchester and at Warwick, where he was Professor of English (1971-92). He has been visiting Professor in the United States at Brandeis, Stanford and Louisville. He is the author of ten books of criticism, literary history and biography, and has published poetry and a novel.
