  • Vittorio Sereni (1913–1983) graduated from the University of Milan in 1936. His first collection of poetry appeared in 1941. Drafted into the Italian Army and captured by Allied troops in 1943, he spent the rest of World War Two in north African POW camps. From the mid-1950s until his death, he was literary director of the publishers Arnoldo Mondadori Editore.
